OG Tag Code
What is the Open Graph protocol?
The Open Graph (OG) protocol is a metadata standard created by Facebook that defines how titles, descriptions, images, and more are displayed when a webpage is shared on social media. Setting og:title, og:description, og:image, and og:url tags makes links appear more attractively on Facebook, Twitter, KakaoTalk, LinkedIn, and other platforms. This tool lets you verify that OG tags are properly configured and preview how they appear on each platform.
Recommended OG Tags
- og:title: The title of the page. Keeping it within 65 characters is recommended.
- og:description: A brief description of the page. 155 characters or fewer is recommended.
- og:image: The main image displayed when shared. 1200×630px is recommended.
- og:url: The canonical URL of the page.
- og:type: Content type. Typically website or article is used.
Frequently Asked Questions
OG tags do not directly affect search engine rankings. However, when attractive previews are displayed on social media, click-through rates (CTR) increase, which can indirectly have a positive impact on traffic and SEO.
Twitter uses OG tags as a fallback when its own Twitter Card tags (twitter:title, twitter:description, etc.) are not present. Therefore, setting only OG tags is sufficient in most cases. However, if you want to display different content on Twitter, you can add separate Twitter Card tags.
Facebook recommends 1200×630px, Twitter recommends 1200×628px. Images must be at least 600×315px to display as large images. File size should be under 5MB in JPG or PNG format. The ideal aspect ratio is 1.91:1.
