What are meta tags?

Meta tags are HTML tags included in the <head> section of an HTML document that convey page information to search engines and social media platforms. Proper meta tag configuration is essential for search engine optimization (SEO) and providing rich previews when sharing on social media. Open Graph tags are used on Facebook, LinkedIn, etc., and Twitter Card tags are used when sharing links on Twitter (X).

The page title and meta description are displayed directly on search engine results pages (SERP), significantly affecting click-through rates (CTR). In particular, the page title is one of Google's core ranking factors. Although keyword tags are currently ignored by most search engines, including appropriate keywords in the title and description is still important.

It is recommended to set both tags. Open Graph tags are used by most social platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, KakaoTalk, etc. Twitter (X) will use OG tags as a fallback if Twitter Card tags are not present, but setting Twitter Card tags separately allows you to provide a preview optimized for Twitter.

The title length displayed in Google search results is approximately 50-60 characters (in English). Longer titles may be truncated, so it is recommended to place key keywords at the front and keep the title within 50-60 characters. For Korean, approximately 25-30 characters is appropriate.

The recommended Open Graph image size is 1200x630 pixels (1.91:1 ratio). It should be at least 600x315 pixels, and a file size of 8MB or less is recommended. Twitter's Summary Large Image card also uses the same ratio, so one image can cover both platforms.
